Empire State Trail Tour

About this event

The Empire State Trail 2025 Touring Ride is currently full, but we do have a waitlist, so please register if you are "highly interested" in going on this ride".

The Empire State Trail is considered to be one of “100 Bike Rides of a Lifetime” from National Geographic book "starting from the Battery, withinthe sight of the Statue of Liberty, you shuffle off to Albany, and then continue the ride toLake Champlain along the northern extension of the Empire State Trail."

We will beginon the Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail, which runs from downtown New York Cityto Albany. The route then continues north on the Champlain Valley Trail, which stretches some 199 miles north, from Albany, through the Adirondacks and on to Rouses Point on the Canadian border.

The riding difficulty is easy to moderate riding on paved trails and road. The road riding, especially north of Albany, will be considerably hillier and roughly 55 percent traffic free overall. There will be climbing as we go through the Adirondack Mountains.

Go to www.empiretrail.ny.gov to learn more about the Empire State Trail.

Daily map segments, a private collection of Scott, is available on RWGPS.

The cost for the tour portion, excluding food and transportation, will be about $200. There are two sites that are free and on a first come first serve basis. If these sites prove not to be available, we will need to get hotel rooms for the night, which will be an added expense.

The plan was to take AMTRACK (The Adirondack) from Plattsburg, NY back to
NYC on the 19 th but the train's bicycle capacity is full. As a result, it's not available. While each rider is responsible for their own travel to and from the route, the group will discuss this issue to brainstorm ideas and economies of scale.

Size of group is limited to 6 riders. Must be able to navigate, make own bike repairs, have a back up plan if unable to complete the ride for ANY reason, and agree to the CCC riding protocols.

Riders should be comfortable with ability to navigate and able to repair their own gear.

Interested individuals should register ASAP; a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 before February 28th is required with the non-refundable balance payable no later than April 30th . (Riders can appreciate that the CCC will incur non-refundable costs
to hold camping site reservations.)

As a reference point, in 2024 this “fully supported” (no gear & sleep in hotels) tour listed at $2,470 for a riding experience by Wilderness Voyageurs Outfitters.

All riders are required to be members of the Cincinnati Cycle Club.

A non-obligatory introduction and orientation ZOOM meeting will be held Tuesday
evening, February 11th at 7:00 pm.

CCC Ride Leader is Scott Bowers. Scott, a volunteer, has numerous solo and group self- supported rides under his belt to include a 3-month solo self-supported ride on the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail in 2021. Scott can be reached at sbowers@LordsGymMInistries.org to answer
