This is one of Warren County‘s weekly rides. We typically have two or three groups with about 4-10 riders, each. A typical average speed for the slowest group is 15 -16 mph and for fastest group is 17 - 20 mph (depending on hills and time of year). We will mix-up routes, including heading north to the hilly Oregonia, and Caesars Creek and East towards Blanchester. Expect some climbing, including unavoidable steeper climbs (10% gradient). Depending on the amount of daylight we usually do about 30 miles, at the beginning and at the end of the season, and up to 50 miles in the peak of the season.
All groups are No Drop rides. The route is usually sent out on the day of a ride. We regroup periodically to make sure that the group stays together.
Registration is required to have access to CCC insurance.
St. Margaret/St. John Church
The Madville Winter Night Ride format has started. THE ROUTE HAS CHANGED!
The weather will be nice and mild.
We‘ve been doing the same Madville route for years but now is the time for change. There is months long construction on Summit Road, it‘s closed along with the footbridge over 75. And then the pending tear down of the 4th Street bridge between Covington and Newport. So I‘ve laid out a new route with some of the same roads. It‘s a bit more challenging with 1500 feet of gradual climb and 35 miles.
A CCC RIde Waiver needs to be signed.
Headlights and tail lights are required. Helmets are required too of course.
This week we ride clockwise - Newport and Covington first. Expect 35 miles and 1,500 feet of climb. As we ride in the dark it tends to be a bit slower paced.
The ride is the same each week, reversing direction each week (subject to change with the new route). Weather permitting it continues all through the winter months each Wednesday night. This is a single speed group ride. There are no sub-groups. We always wait at logical intersections for riders to regroup. It’s a no drop ride. Average speeds will vary between 14-16 MPH. Expect flat road speeds to exceed 20+ at times. Headlights, taillights and helmets are required. Lighting is critical because we will be riding in the dark.
If you ride AHEAD OF THE GROUP then you’re on your own. And with the new route a wrong turn is possible.
Please arrive a few minutes early. We will do our best to observe all established traffic regulations and ride safely. Potential wet weather or wet roads will cancel the ride. Parking in the church lot is permitted.
The ride will start and end at the Stonelick State Park Beach parking lot
This ride will start and end at the Stonelick State Park Beach parking lot (follow park signs to the Beach).
