Week Long Tour: Katy Trail (bikekatytrail.com)

Ride Date: September 11-18, 2022 (no rain date)

Note: September is a very busy time of the year for the Katy Trail. Campsites will fill to capacity. Make your reservations early!

Ride Location: Drive to St. Charles MO (just west of St. Louis), and take a shuttle van to Clinton MO. Ride bicycles back to St. Charles.

Ride Leader: Bob Kissinger (rdkissinger@cinci.rr.com)

Ride Description: The purpose of this event is to introduce touring cyclists to a full week of bicycle touring and camping. The Katy Trail is a 237 mile trail stretching across most of the state of Missouri.  Over half the trail‘s length follows Lewis and Clark‘s path along the Missouri River, where you can ride beneath towering river bluffs while eagles circle overhead. The rest of the trail meanders through peaceful farmland and small-town Americana. Since the trail uses the old MKT railroad line, it is mostly flat. Experienced tour leaders will share their knowledge about bike touring throughout the trip. You must register for this event, so please register early and pay the non-refundable camping fee if you want to attend. Registration is limited to 12 campers on a first-paid, first-reserved basis, provided you are able to make reservations at certain campsites (see Campsite Information below)

This is one of Warren County's weekly rides. We typically have two or three groups with about 4-10 riders, each. A typical average speed for slowest group is 15 -16 mph and for fastest group is 17 - 19 mph. We usually head north to the hilly Oregonia, and Caesars Creek so expect some climbing. Depending on the amount of daylight we usually do about 30 miles, at the beginning and at the end of the season, and up to 50 miles in the peak of the season. All groups are No Drop rides. The rout is usually sent out at the day of a ride. We regroup every few miles to make sure that group stays together. Please let group ride leader know if you are planning to separate from your group otherwise, he might start looking for you.
