Ride Location: Four day ride that starts and ends at Xenia Station OH.

Ride Leader: Bob Kissinger

Ride Cost: There is a $20 non-refundable camping fee (plus $0.88 fee if using credit card) to cover the shared cost of non-refundable campsite reservation fees. The ride leader must receive your non-refundable camping fee before your registration is confirmed. Registration is limited to 12 campers on a first-paid, first-reserved basis. All other costs are the responsibility of the individual. The $20 camping fee can be paid on-line via PayPal (Send to a Friend) to rdkissinger@cinci.rr.com. Be sure to add a note with your name to confirm the reservation. You can also mail a check to Bob Kissinger, 10551 Storybook Drive, Montgomery OH 45242.

Ride Description: The purpose of this event is to introduce touring cyclists to a multi-day ride. The route travels 50-60 miles per day on mostly flat, paved surfaces. Approximately 70 miles of the route are on bike trails, with the remaining 140 miles on roads with car and truck traffic. This is a challenging tour! Before signing up, be sure that you are comfortable riding with traffic, and that you are able to ride 210 miles over four days on a fully loaded touring bike. Experienced tour leaders will share their knowledge about bike touring throughout the trip. You must register for this event, so please register early and pay the non-refundable camping fee if you want to attend. Registration is limited to 12 campers on a first-paid, first-reserved basis.

Mandatory Equipment: All cyclists must wear helmets while riding. All cyclists must use a bright, blinking red rear taillight while riding on roads (trail optional). While not required, a bright, blinking white headlight is strongly recommended while riding on roads.

Ride Itinerary: The route and basic information for each day is as follows.

Friday, June 10 - Xenia Station to Hueston Woods Campground (59 miles): Follow the Creekside Trail (Ohio Bicycle Route 2) west  through Beavercreek, then ride a few miles on urban roads to Dayton (Kroger grocery stop at Mile 15) before connecting with the Great Miami River Trail (Ohio Bicycle Route 25). At West Carrolton, the route leaves the bicycle trail and follows local roads to Hueston Woods Campground, passing through Camden on the way.

Saturday, June 11 - Hueston Woods Campground to Fireside Resort (48 miles): The route follows local roads from Hueston Woods to Fireside Resort. The route passes through Eaton (Kroger grocery stop).

Sunday, June 12 - Fireside Resort to Kiser Lake Campground (51 miles): The route follows local roads from Fireside Resort to the campground. You will pass through Greenville, Gettysburg, Bradford and Piqua (Kroger grocery stop). There will be a few short respites from traffic on bike trails throughout the day.

Monday, June 13 - Kiser Lake Campground to Xenia Station (50 miles): The route follows local roads to Urbana, where it connects with the Simon Kenton Trail and Little Miami Bike Trail (Ohio Bicycle Route 3). The route passes through Springfield and Yellow Springs before ending at Xenia Station.

The group will meet at Xenia Station parking lot on Friday, June 10, at 7:30am for a group picture, followed by an 8am departure. We are allowed to park our cars in the lot for the extended weekend. We will not ride as one group. You will ride at your own pace, and take breaks whenever you feel like it. Riders have the choice of eating meals/take-out at restaurants, or cooking meals at the campsites. The route will pass by grocery stores each day, so riders can purchase necessary food items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is no rain date for this event. Be sure to bring rain gear just in case it rains!

There will be no SAG support for this ride. You will need to have the necessary gear to carry your camping/cooking equipment on your bike. Riders must have the tools for, and be able to perform, basic bike repairs, e.g. fix a flat tire. If for any reason you cannot complete the ride, you will need to have someone you can call to come and pick you up.

Would you like to sign up for the Extended Weekend Bicycle Tour, but you do not have the racks/panniers or trailer to carrier your gear? Problem solved! I have found a company in Cincinnati (Vega's Velo Bicycle Transport) that will pick up your camping gear at each morning’s starting point (Xenia Station, Hueston Woods CG. Fireside Resort and Kiser Lake CG), and move it to that day’s ending point. The only catch is that they need at least four people to sign up for the service. If they get four people, the cost is $100 per person for the four days of gear transport. If you can find three other cyclists who want to do the ride, then you are ready to go. If you are only one or two cyclists, reply this email to see if you can find others to join you. For questions and more information about transporting you gear, contact Jackie and Jim at Vega’s Velo Bicycle Transport (vegasvelo.transport@gmail.com, 513-620-8812).

This event is a perfect opportunity to prepare for our Fall week-long trip scheduled for September 11-17, when we will ride the Katy Trail in Missouri.
